Intermittent fasting, also known as time-restricted eating, is a trendy weight loss approach that restricts eating to set times. Various methods include fasting for two or three days a week or incorporating an eight-hour eating window. While previous studies have shown advantages to time restriction, a recent yearlong study found no significant benefits for weight loss or cardiovascular health. A preliminary study presented at a conference suggested that an eight-hour eating window was associated with a 91% increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. However, experts have expressed concerns about the study’s methodology and data limitations. The overall consensus remains that reducing calorie intake is crucial for weight loss, regardless of the distribution of food throughout the day.
